Project Overview
The Palace was a documentary-style film commissioned by Woods Bagot to document the transformation of Perth’s historic Palace Hotel into the firm’s new design studio.
Combining interviews, historical research, archive material and construction footage, the film explored both the history of the building and its evolution into a contemporary workplace while preserving its architectural heritage.
The challenge
The Palace Hotel holds an important place in Perth’s architectural and cultural history. As Woods Bagot transformed the heritage-listed building into its new design studio, they wanted to document both the redevelopment process and the story behind the building itself.
The challenge was to create a film that celebrated the building’s past while showcasing its future.
The solution
Working alongside Epistudios, WildAcre Studio documented the redevelopment process over a four-month period, capturing interviews, construction progress, time-lapse footage and archival material.
The film was structured around the history of the Palace Hotel, ensuring the building’s heritage remained central to the narrative while highlighting the design thinking behind its transformation.
Audience Response
The completed documentary premiered at the official opening event, attended by more than 600 guests and dignitaries.
Following the launch, the film was published online and featured by local media outlets, helping share the story of the redevelopment with a broader audience.
